Guadalupe County Sheriff’s deputies arrest suspect accused of shooting man at least 12 times, GCSO says

Camrine Ruben Chissell, 21, was taken into custody Monday afternoon, deputies say; victim critically injured

GUADALUPE COUNTY, TexasUPDATE at 2:33 p.m.: The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested a man deputies believe shot another man at least 12 times on Sunday night.

According to jail records, Camrine Ruben Chissell, 21, is facing an aggravated assault against a date or family member charge in connection with the shooting.

In a Monday afternoon news release, deputies said Chissell was taken into custody without incident at approximately 12:30 p.m. A Guadalupe County judge set Chissell’s bond at $500,000.

The sheriff’s office also provided new details on the 43-year-old male victim. Authorities said the victim was found with multiple injuries to one of his hands, his lower left abdomen and his left hip or leg area.

After the victim was transported to a San Antonio hospital, medical staff said the victim “sustained approximately 12 gunshot wounds,” the news release states. The victim is in critical condition but has a “high likelihood of survival, barring complications,” the sheriff’s office said.

Records also show Chissell was arrested and charged in connection with a family violence incident on Jan. 15.

Regarding the January arrest, Chissell bonded out of jail on Feb. 24, according to the county jail.

At this time, it is unclear if the Jan. 15 arrest and the Sunday shooting arrest are connected.

The sheriff’s office said its investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE at 7:55 a.m.: The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) identified a suspect in connection with a shooting in the McQueeney area.

Camrine Ruben Chissell, 21, was named as the suspect in the Sunday night shooting that left a 43-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds.

In an online Facebook post, GCSO said its deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 8:30 p.m.

Deputies found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover, the sheriff’s office said.

Chissell, a McQueeney native, was identified as the suspect after evidence was collected at the scene, deputies said.

“Chissell remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous,” GCSO said.

GCSO initially ordered residents in the surrounding area to shelter in place. As of Monday morning, the order has since been lifted.

A warrant has been obtained, which charges Chissell with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, GCSO said.

Background

The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office suggested residents shelter in place following an alleged shooting late Sunday night.

The incident happened in the 100 block of McQueeney Road, according to an online Facebook post. The post was made around 9:50 p.m. Sunday.

Guadalupe County includes cities such as Marion and Seguin as well as portions of Cibolo and Schertz.

Initial reports indicate a man wearing all black clothing fled the scene and was “possibly armed,” GCSO said in the post.

It is unclear what led up to this shooting, or if there were any injuries. KSAT has reached out to GCSO for more information.

Anyone who sees a man matching the description is asked to call 911 immediately. Do not attempt to approach or confront the individual, GCSO said.

Additionally, if anyone has information on the person’s whereabouts and it is not an emergency, is asked to call GCSO’s dispatch line at 830-379-1224.

This is a developing story. KSAT will provide updates as more information becomes available.
